Antiwrinkle Injection

Anti-wrinkle injections
Anti-wrinkle injections alleviate the tension in the facial muscles that would have resulted in creases where collagen had worn away over time. This method of treatment combines both prevention and treatment.  It eliminates wrinkles by stopping the physical movement of underlying muscles which over time reduces the number of wrinkles forming in the area injected.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections have been used for more than 20 years and are unmatched for treating of upper face wrinkles like crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. They are both safe and effective.

The procedure takes about 15 minutes to complete, and results can be noticed 3 to 14 days following the procedure, giving the patient a youthful appearance that lasts for up to 2 to 6 months depending on your body’s ability to break down the botulinum toxin.

Anti-wrinkle injections work by injecting very small amounts of Botulinum straight into the muscle directly, this temporarily relaxes the facial muscles and prevents wrinkles. Since a very fine needle is used, most patients report very moderate, transient discomfort, and the procedure only takes a few minutes.

Frown lines (between the eyes)
Crows Feet (around the eyes)

We use underlying facial muscles every time we smile or grimace. As these muscles contract and stretch over time, the skin is creased and the collagen is gradually worn away, resulting in lines and wrinkles on our faces. Lines and wrinkles are caused by the breakdown of our collagen, which is also accelerated by natural aging, UV damage, hormone changes, nutrition, smoking, and inescapable environmental factors.

An anti-wrinkle injectable is administered with a very fine needle, and takes only a few seconds. It’s the tiny prick of the needle for a moment, and most patients tolerate it very well. Several injections are given into the area you’re concerned about, for example the frown lines between the brows. If you are highly sensitive, a topical anaesthetic gel can be applied first. It has been compared to a similar sting experience to threading hair removal.

It varies by patient, but as a rule expect to see the results within 2 – 5 days as the muscle beneath the skin of the frown line relaxes. Once it does, the difference will be noticeable to you as you know every inch and line of your own face. The results are subtle and natural, making you look well-rested and more youthful.

Anti-wrinkle injectables and dermal fillers are tried and tested in millions of treatments globally and are safe and effective when administered by a doctor who has a correct understanding of the underlying facial musculature.

Side effects can include minor bruising at the site of the injection, so don’t take any medication that thins the blood (like aspirin) for several days prior to your treatment, as this increases the risk of bruising. Other side effects are discussed in your consent form which you can read prior to attending the clinic. This is site specific depending on the injection site.  A few minutes after treatment small bumps may be visible on the skin. These will disappear very quickly. Temporary headache is the most commonly reported symptom following Anti-wrinkle injection, though the number of patients who report headaches is minimal compared with the number of treatments performed. Any headache can be treated with the usual painkillers.

Each patient responds differently but in general, anti-wrinkle injectables last between 2 and 4 months before the relaxing effect on the muscle wears off. Dermal fillers last for a longer period depending on the type of filler being used, and the area of the face being treated.

No. Our doctors study your facial musculature and administer the right amount of product for you, for the most natural and subtle of results. The ‘frozen’ or unnatural appearance you sometimes see on celebrities happen as a result of over-treatment. You can indicate what kind of effect you are looking for and discuss it with your doctor.

Yes. Anti-wrinkle injections do not ‘build up’ or accumulate in your system. Recommended treatments are scheduled at about 3-6 months. Once the effects have worn off it is safe for you to top up treatments in the same area. It is also perfectly safe to have multiple treatments in different regions simultaneously.

Social occasions should be planned with your Injectable treatments schedule in mind, as redness, bruising and swelling can be experienced post-treatment.

Inform your treating Medical Professional about any medications or dietary supplements you are taking, some medications can adversely affect the way Anti Wrinkle Inejctions work and can increase your risk of bruising.

You must refrain from taking any painkiller medication that contains Ibuprofen (this only relates to any medication that is “not prescribed by a Doctor”). Ibuprofen may contribute to bruising and is best avoided for 7 days pretreatment.

You must refrain from taking Alcohol and Vitamin supplements including; St. Johns Wort, Fish oils, Garlic, Gingko Biloba, Vitamins A-E, these may all contribute to bruising and are best avoided for 7 days pre-treatment.

You must come with no makeup on the day of treatment, you must not reapply makeup for 24 hours in order to reduce the risk of infection or irritation at the injection sites.

Please let us know if you have any planned travel in the next 4 weeks. You cannot have Injectable treatments if you are feeling at all unwell.

You may have some red bumps post-treatment at the injection sites, these should resolve within a few hours of treatment.

You must place no pressure on or rub the treatment area for a period of 8 hours post-treatment.

You must stay upright for a period of 4 hours post-treatment. Avoid activities such as shoe shopping.

Avoid headwear that is tightly fitted across the forehead.

If a bruise does occur it may take a few days to appear and can take up to 10 days to resolve. Arnica can be helpful in clearing bruising (however evidence is not consistent in its effectiveness). You must avoid Ibuprofen and alcohol for 24-48 hours post-treatment as this can increase bruising.

Your Anti Wrinkle Injections will start to take effect within 1-3 days post-treatment, visible results can be seen on day 7, and full results can be seen on day 14.

A feeling of heaviness in the area of treatment can be experienced in the first-week post-treatment, this is a result of your Anti Wrinkle Injections taking effect and your muscles starting to relax.

If this is your first Anti Wrinkle Injection treatment you will be contacted 2 weeks post-treatment when the product has taken full effect to assess your treatment results, a small adjustment may be required at this stage if necessary to perfect results.
